Comments:

I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on a bike but I wanted a quality ride that would last me a long time. The 4300 has done that. I've been out several times and it has not failed me yet. The seat is a little uncomfortable but that can always be swapped out. I swapped out the cheap pedals with some Shimano Clip-Ins and I'm very pleased with my purchase. [...]I just ordered the Trek 820 WSD for my girlfriend from them so she can tag along!

Light weight compared to other bikes in this price range and class. Smooth shifting gears. Seat could use an upgrade, but other than that no complaints! Looked at Specialized bike in the same price range; the 4300 felt as if it had better handling and slightly lighter. Took my bike on a pretty rough trail today...took a small spill- gotta break it in sometime!!!

Beginning mountain biker / trail rider . Came off older bike that was heavy . The TREK is light, gearing is great for climbing . Shifter is quick and easy to use on tight trails . Suspension soaks up rocks, roots, ruts . Tires took every rock and stump on the trail no problems ( correct inflation helps) . Tires are a little loose on gravel, but good for all purpose tire . Bike exceeds my skill level at this time . Great beginner to intermediate bike .Made my friend with new bike need an upgrade to keep up .

I have had the bike since Oct '08 and have put about 500 miles on it. I have been very happy with the bike riding street and urban. I started having problems when I went trail riding and keep bending/breaking spokes on my rear tire. I'm a 250+ person that does give the bike a workout but I have been disappointed with the rear wheel either breaking or loosing of the spokes. Trying to get them warrentied but will probably end up buying a set of owonhill rims that can take the wt and punishment. Other than that the bike has performed really well. Might want to spend a bit more if you are above 200 and plan to put a bike to its limits

This is a great bike, I am a new mountain biker and this bike was within my price range and also a quality ride. I have been riding 5 days a week and it has held up great. I will soon upgrade to the trek 6700 but this bike has been a great start. The components are fantastic, shifts without delay or excessive noise. Only complain is the stock tires, they are a not the best for trail riding, not enough traction, tires are easy and cheap to upgrade.

I looked at this bike and several others. This one was just out of my budget and I came across a layaway bike some one backed out of. The price was reduced and I got it for a great price brand new and it is worth every penny and even at full price.

Got about 100 miles of aggressive single track and trial riding in the last month and am very happy with it. Geometry is perfect for me, smooth shifting, good suspension, and good brakes. First lockout suspension I've had and its great for riding up steep hills. After a few rides I ended up replacing the pedals and tires with more agressive models but those are a personal prefererence/riding style thing. Contrary to most posts on here I think the seat is the most comportable I've had and you guys that are popping 5+ tires a week are doing it wrong haha. Got great service at the bike zone in Rochester, NY if anyones in the area.

Bought this bike and I like it, not love it. It's not worth the [$] paid. If I could do it over I would have paid more for a better bike. It's not bad, but for [$] I expected less than 5 flats in a couple weeks. I remember riding my Western Auto bike in the desert when I was a kid and I never had that many flats in a year. Bike is comfy, great climber, smooth shifts, but doesnt feel right on the road. The tires really suck. Switch the tires ASAP.....

        Comments:

I purchased the Trek 4300 Series without the disc brake. I have put almost 200 miles on the bike without a single problem. I wish the tires could be inflated more than 60psi. But I changed over to road tires and it really sped up the bike a bunch. And handles so much smoother. Granted I don't go in the dirt but when I do have to, it only takes about 15 minutes to change back over to the knobbies. Also the seat it a butt breaker, I changes over to a more comfortable, wider seat which solved the problem. Other than that I felt my money was well spent. Some people have complained about this bike, I say why complain buy that $11,000 bike from Europe. Enjoy...
