I am new to biking and have had this bike for about 7 months now. I ride it to school and back (7 miles) 5 days a week and I have also trained for and completed a sprint triathlon with this bike. No complaints yet. Great bike for the price.

For those who placed Poor Off-Road Handling as a con, you should really do your research. This is a hybrid bike. It's not made for off road use. I was very specific in asking the salesperson about this because I was on the fence between a hybrid and mountain bike. Mountain bikes have wider tires with less PSI to handle rough terrain, hybrids don't. I chose the Trek 7.1 FX for it smoothness and speed after realizing I would mainly use it on the road. As a first time buyer, I am truly looking forward to getting into this sport.

        Comments:

For the price the is the best bike for paved roads and light gravel. For me the shifting is a bit rough at times, however, it could be I was used to my old bike and I have only put about 150mi on this one. Bottom line it is light weight and the smoothest ride in the world. You will feel like you are flying!

Best bike in it's price range bar none. [...] This was a "step up" bike for me. My old bike was a [...] bought $100.00 bike. This bike is orders of magnitude better, and from what I hear and read, a great buy for even pros. Groupo shifts smoothly, and very smooth ride and handling. I would recommend it for anyone getting back into bicycling or commuting. Definately NOT an off-road bike though!

A really great bike. My old bike was a mountain bike I got from a department store, so the difference in quality was astounding. I remember on the first day I went ahead and booked over 25 miles on it. My only complaint was the seats, but I think that this is partially due to the fact that I had not ridden any sort of bike in about a month. However, I quickly got used to it and was having a great time. It really gives you some speed but also works well for the casual rider.
