Because of my bad knees and back I believed that I could not enjoy cycling. My 22.5" Trek 7100 changed my point of view. Also, cycling has lowered my cholesterol and pulse. Great bike!

Bought Memorial Day weekend as a "get back in shape" bike. Have been riding 5 miles every other day since, weather permitting. I am 51 years old and retired military with bad knees. This bike not only is great for a fitness regimen, it is fun to ride. I haven't enjoyed a bike so much since my 10-speed in New England when I was a kid. Even on those " I really don't want to work out days", once I get on it, it is just a blast to ride! First professional type bike I bought-no regrets! Fits my 6'3" frame well (22.5' frame).

I purchased this bike after only a year on my other bike. No broken spokes or flats so far. Bike seems solid and well built with quality components. Gearing is such that even with 21 speeds it seems easier to ride up and down hills than my last one with 24 speeds. The one thing I don't care for is the 4 clicks between gears on the front sprocket. My wife is now considering buying one for herself.

Bought my 7100 from Lee's Cyclery in Fort Collins, CO. Oct 2011 and I love it!!! Bought it mainly as a commuter bike to and from campus but with the addition of Bontrager NCS full fenders, rack with Bontrager Interchange trunk basket and this bike is doing it ALL! Gives a nice comfortable ride going up to a decent speed with relative ease. The Interchange trunk is the best accessory I have ever put on a bike! Wasn't sure about it at first but now I wouldn't be without it! Added so much flexibility can just pop it off, flip up the handle and it turns into a great grocery store hand basket. Pop it back on and your on the road. Thanks to all the guys a Lee's loved the service and taking the time to get me on this bike! It was by far the best choice for me and It's gotten me on the road 10x more than I was before! Thanks guys!

              Comments:

Recently bought the Trek 7100 for road/ light off road use after using a rather combersome mountain bike for some time. I find the bike to be really comfortable and quite nippy. It builds up speed well but would benefit from a more extended gear range for faster on-the-level riding. The tyres are fine but tend to 'clog' a little with fine grit stones when riding the Pennine Trail. Would definately recommend this bike as a good quality 'all-rounder' with its commuting/light recreational bias.

              Comments:

The pedal fell off a week after purchasing it. I was commuting back home from work and was moving at a high rate of speed. All of a sudden the pedal falls off the bike and I lost my balance and nearly lost control of the bike. I took it back to Revolution Cycles in Rockville, MD and upon inspection the manager, who is also the lead mechanic, determined that the threads on the crank were striped. He stated that the bike was defective and proceeded to hone the crank in an attempt to reuse the broken parts. I was quite astounded that this was happening so I had to ask him to replace the parts. I took the bike back home and the very next day on my way home from work the handle bar became loose and I barely made it home safely again. Since I know the bikes are assembled at the store I can't fully fault the quality of the materials as much as the workmanship and attention to detail of the bike mechanic[...]. I never got the chance to appreciate the quality that Trek is known for. Not very satisfied with my experience overall.

I'm heading toward 50 YO and wanted to stop wasting money on gas and get back in shape. My commute is about 5 miles, so I'm definitely not going to set any distance records. I looked at a lot of bikes, but this one has what I wanted and the dealer is great. I've added panniers, fenders, and a computer and I love riding the trails around town. The ride is smooth and so is the shifting. It won't go off road, but that's not why I bought it. All around a great ride and a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

                Comments:

I usually ride 10 to 15 miles on roads and paved bike paths. This bike fits my needs perfectly. I was not convinced that the front shocks were necessary until I compared it to the Trek 7000. There is a significant difference. It seems some reviewers are concerned about the extra weight the shocks add to the bike (about 2 pounds). I feel that they make my ride more comfortable, which will make me want to ride more. So those pounds added by the shocks should be eventually shed from the rider! There is also an upgrade to some other components when comparing the 7100 and the 7000, but this was not obvious to me in the few miles that I compared them. Both were good bikes but I went with the 7100 simply because I didn't want to get off of it. This morning, I rode for 12 miles. The 7100 was very efficient going up hills. The thinner tires felt very stable throughout the entire ride. Due to the large wheels and the more-upright seating, I am significantly higher off the ground compared to my 15 year old box store bike. I had to be cautious for low hanging branches. However, I felt more visible to passing traffic and can easily see over cars when waiting at a red light. Working with my local bike shop (Bicycle One in Gahanna, Ohio... Also highly recommended) to find a bike that fits me and my needs was the best thing I could have done to make me want to ride every day.

I switch back and forth between the 7100 and an old road bike for commuting, but this guy is so dang reliable. even with a laptop strapped to my back it's still comfortable for a 12.5 mile run each way. Great price at [$]. Components aren't top of the line, but it's hard to complain for that price. Not quite as fast as the road bike, but I don't feel every bump in the garbage cleveland roads either.

This is an amazing bike, it's fast and lightweight. It's very durable also, I flipped it the other day because I didn't see the sidewalk was raised up about 3 inches. And I hit it and flipped myself and the bike. The bike only has a few minor scratches and it didn't hurt the tire at all.
